Production:

  • Pre-production:
 This is the stage which planning takes place. Planning includes breaking down the scenes to identify location, props, cast, costumes, licences,  special FX and visual F. The script is broken down and worked into a schedule, we also decide on film crew and equipment.
This is part that is most important for the technicians, the casting director and the location & prop manager.
  • Production:
This is the stage that filming takes place, when everything in pre-production is used to film the scenes to the best of the film crews ability. this is the part that is most important for the director an the actors.
  • Post-Production:
This is the stage where the editors assemble the film from the sequences and the shots taken. A rough cut of the film is made and the with the director the film is re-edited, and then the music, graphics, more special FX, captions and credits are added.
This part is most important for the editor director and producer.

What is independent production:
  • Independent production are any films not made or produced by the main production companies and are often produced by small companies or individuals.
 

Distribution:

  • Distribution is when a finished film is supplied to cinemas, theatres or other places where it is available to be viewed by an audience.
  • The film studios distribute the film through marketing, sales, festivals and representatives.
  • Traditional distribution would be the film is released in the cinema, then after a few months the film is available to rent or buy as a dvd or video.
  • The newer form of distribution is that films are available online, on demand and different dvd formats very soon after it has been released.
  • Film festivals are to showcase what the studio has to offer. It is to help with distribution and sales, show off new talent, promote companies and to create interest in the films.
  • A distributer might release a film on a certain day because they know no other major film are being released. Or the film could have social, cultural or historical relevance to the certain date or period. Also could be used to coincide with a major event.

Marketing:

  • Marketing is when you show a product and create a desire for it.






How are films promoted to different audiences?

  • Films are promoted by using strong visual imagery that show universally common factors.
  • In different countries they would show different clips.

  • Box office is how much money the film makes at the cinema is used to show successful a film is.

  • Cinemas make money from the ticket sales.
  • the customers buying food and drink from the cinema.
  • advertising the film.

What is the BFI?
  • The British Film Institute.

What do they do?
  • They promote and give access to film and moving image in Great Britain in cinema and on TV.
